As they approach the home stretch of the 2020 presidential race, the Democratic and Republican parties and their candidates apparently have struck a deal: The subject of fitness for office is off limits.
Trump, 74, won't have to explain his erratic and bizarre behavior and policies, and Joe Biden, 77, avoids having to deny that his own advisers worry he's in cognitive decline.
EIther way, whoever wins the election will come with a lot of mental-health baggage, which raises the question: In that event, who actually will be president -- the winning candidate himself or several unseen "advisers?" Are we comfortable with that -- president by proxy?
