Ex-president Donald Trump has new stationery. It lists his title as "Former President of the United States," and has a return address at Mar-a-Lago, Fla., the upscale private club and compound where Trump and wife Melania7 bunkered until a court decides whether they're living there illegally and orders them out.
Trump's mind is on another court right now -- a U.S. Senate trial that on Feb. 8 will hear charges that he inspired a violent attack on Jan. 6 on the Capitol in Washington, D.C. Five people died and several federal buildings and grounds were damaged.
Trump and his supporters continue to insist that the election was "stolen" from him. They seem confident that he will not be impeached -- for a second time in his first term in office -- at the end of the Senate trial.
QUESTION: What makes Trump so sure he'll beat the rap?

Here's what we're discussing on Leid Stories today:
The U.S. Senate today begins to consider the one-count article of impeachment that the House had voted out against ex-President Donald Trump last week.
The House had charged Trump with inciting a violent insurrection by supporters on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C.
He stoked the rebellion and violence, the charging document said, by encouraging a mass rally in support of his claim that the November national election was riddled with fraud, which caused him to lose against the Democratic candidate, Joe Biden.
Due to the violence that broke out around the Capitol that day, four people died, several congressional offices were ransacked after leaders a d their staffs ran for their lives, and damage to several buildings and campus grounds was extensive.
Now that the initial shock has worn off, new questions have surfaced in connection with the impeachment charge against Trump.
Leid Stories explores some of these questions.

Kamala Harris grins with delight when "the Second Gentleman of the United States" is mentioned. He, too grins a lot, with obvious pride. That's because Harris, the newly minted vice president of the United States, is married to Doug Emhoff, now the nation's Second Gentleman, and he's so proud of his wife's accomplishment, he has quit his law firm job to "help" her full time, though no one asked him to.
Biden, too, will be getting "help" from his educator wife Jill, although the specifics are not yet known.
Today's question is: Clearly both Democrats and Republicans share a love for the easy money of the public dole. But shouldn't these practices end NOW?b

The Trumps have thrown protocol out the window, breaking with the tradition of the past president receiving the new president into his new digs.
Not Trump. Joe Biden "stole" the election from him, so no courtesies from Trump. Will Trump's bad attitude hound Biden's term in office?
As Biden settles in, Leid Stories listeners discuss what we should brace ourselves for in the power handover period and beyond.
