Leid Stories—Another ‘Act of Terror’ or Something Else?—11.01.17

Yesterday’s attack in the shadow of the World Trade Center that left eight people dead and 12 was “an act of terror and a particularly cowardly act of terror aimed at innocent civilians,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio of the gruesome handiwork of Sayfullo Habibulaevic Saipov, an Uzbekstani national who emigrated to the United States seven years ago.

Saipov survived being shot by a police officer after he mowed down his victims with a rented truck. He underwent surgery and remains in police custody.

The attack is said to be the largest terrorist act committed in the United States since the al Qaeda-directed Sept. 11, 2001 suicide attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that claimed 2,996 lives.

Leid Stories, however, asks: Are these acts of terror or something else?

Leid Stories—The Muller Indictments Miss the Mark By Far—10.31.17

Robert Mueller, the Justice Department’s special counsel probing possible collusion between the Russian government and the Trump 2016 presidential campaign, yesterday announced indictments of three former Trump aides—Paul Manafort, who ran Trump’s early campaign manager; Rick Gates, a longtime business partner of Manafort; and George Papadopoulos, who was a foreign policy adviser to the campaign.

Manafort and Gates are contesting the charges against them. Papadopoulos has pleaded guilty as charged.

Mueller’s indictments, five months into his investigation, have triggered a firestorm of debate within the legal, political and legislative worlds, especially regarding the   thrust, scope and duration of his secret probe.

There are other major concerns, too. It may be too early to tell where Muller is headed, but yesterday’s indictments appear to be of no help in answering the key question: Did Donald Trump collude with the Russian government to steal the 2016 election?

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley means business; he’s already requested that the Justice Department’s Jeff Sessions speed up the appointment of a special prosecutor. And many foreign governments and philanthropic organizations

Because the Clintons solicited and/or received hundreds of millions of dollars from foreign governments and philanthropic entities to fund the foundation’s “good works” around the world, several of them have launched their own investigations, demanding detailed accounts for where their money went.

Leid Stories—A Republican Senator’s Not-So-Fond Farewell—10.25.17

On the heels of a stinging rebuke of President Donald Trump by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) over what Corker called “the debasement of the nation,” another leading Republican, Jeff Flake of Arizona, announced yesterday from the Senate floor that, like Corker, he’ll quit politics at the end of his current term rather than put up with “an utterly untruthful president” and a party that is unwilling to keep him in check.

Leid Stories—Ambush in Niger: We Demand Truth! (Part 2)—10.24.17

We return to yesterday’s discussion that raised questions about the U.S. increased military presence in Africa—both in terms of personnel and military installations. The Oct. 4 ambush of four special-operations troops in Niger has raised questions in Congress about “shadow” military operations in that and several other African countries that few in Congress seem to know anything about. Meanwhile, as many as 1,500 “advisers” and other military personnel are in about 34 African countries, and Niger will soon be home to a $100-million, U.S.-built drone base.

More than 1,000 people on Saturday attended a private funeral service for Army Sgt. La David Johnson at Christ the Rock Church in South Florida. Johnson was one of four soldiers in a 12-man unit who were killed in Niger in an Oct 4 ambush, said to have been carried out by ISIS-affiliated forces. His body was not recovered for two days.

Charles Ortel, a former Wall Street banker turned financial investigator who widely is recognized as a leading expert on The Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation (the Clinton Foundation), follows his bombshells about the operations and machinations of the foundation and its principals with new findings that broaden the circle of key players in what he calls “the largest unprosecuted fraud in U.S. history.”

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley announced yesterday that his committee is looking into major conflicts of interest involving the foundation’s financial dealings. Ortel’s reports on Leid Stories centered on multiple initiatives the foundation claimed it was successfully running as a donor-funded charity. But very little about the foundation appears to be operating lawfully under its tax-exempt status. Instead, the foundation continues to operate, outside of its original purpose of building a presidential library, as the Clintons’ personal slush fund.
