Ongoing protests against systemic government corruption in Haiti got new energy yesterday as thousands joined a popular movement demanding the resignation of President Jovenel Moise and many high-level government officials.
Yesterday's renewed protests coincided with the nation's observance of the 215th anniversary of Bataille de Vertieres, when Haitians struck a decisive blow against France in a fierce battle for independence.
Journalist, author (most recently, We Have Dared to Be Free: Haiti's Struggle Against Occupation) academician and research biologist Dady Chery has written extensively on Haitian history and developments in Haiti. She explains the sinister roles many foreign entities have played, and attempt to play, in the shadows of popular uprisings in Haiti.
