We talked yesterday about Tweedledum and Tweedledee, a metaphor for our political system, which seems to have near-zero tolerance for embracing the idea that in a highly developed society such as ours the apparatus of government should reflect its complexities.
But that is not so in the United States. When it comes to politics and elections, we are creatures of habit. Our tastes are set; we're not into new-fangled flavors. We're fine with Democrat and Republican. New political flavors are just not for us.
For decades now, voters have been reluctant to look beyond the two-party system for new political choices. Today we discuss how this has retarded, and continues to retard, progress.
