Here's what we're talking about on Leid Stories today.
▪︎Derek Chauvin, the ex-Minneapolis cop convicted in April of murder and manslaughter charges in the brutal killing of George Floyd, faces sentencing on Friday in Hennepin County District Court.
Recommendations are at two extremes, with Judge Peter Cahill being urged by some to consider probation for Chauvin, while others want the judge to impose the heaviest sentence possible.
What sentence would you recommend? Why?
▪︎Last Thursday morning, a small damaged boat was seen listing at sea, but inching its way nonetheless to shore. It banged into a sea wall, which helped it to stop. Out of the boat about 16 people emerged and quckly made their way to shore. They scattered, trying to find places to hide.
Police nabbed one man, who said he was Jamaican. The island had become dangerous. Too many killings, he said. Others on the boat were from the Bahamas, Romania, Venezuela, Jamaica and the United Kingdom.
The U.S. Coast Guard said that this was its 483rd migrant interdiction in South Florida since May 1.
