Trump Makes History (The Wrong Kind): Impeached A Second Time In His First Term As President
Ten Republicans joined Democrats in a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump yesterday.
In a 232-197 vote, House members looking into the calamitous, violent, state-of-emergency events that seized the Capitol for more than a week found Trump's incendiary urgings and false allegations played a major role
Trump had claimed, without any court-tested proof, that massive voter fraud, allegedly orchestrated by the Biden and Democratic "machine," had robbed him of reelection. But Trump's mantra did galvanize many hardline supporters, who rallied and mobilized in his behalf.
Yesterday's House vote officially charges Trump with "incitement of insurrection." Trump, whose term ends on Jan. 20, still must face trial in the U.S. Senate.
It will be Trump's second time being impeached--and in his first term. In 2019 Trump had to answer to charges that he and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, were pressing the Ukrainian government to launch a bogus probe into Hunter Biden, who at the time was an executive with an energy company there.
