▪︎The Colonial Pipeline, which runs from Houston to Linden, New Jersey, and supplies 45 percent of the fuel used on the Eastern Seaboard, is back online.

A ransomware organization calling itself DarkSide had claimed responsibility for unleashing a cyberattack against Colonial, disabling its pumps and other vital operations. DarkSide  demanded a ransom to undo its handiwork. Meanwhile, coast to coast across the South many gas stations are running out or already have run out of fuel.

DarkSide has ushered in the new "in" crime. Is the U.S. behind the 8-ball on this one? 

 

▪︎The trial and conviction  of Minnesota ex-cop Derek Chauvin on murder and manslaughter charges in the killing of George Floyd last year is becoming a benchmark of sorts. 

Across the country police departments are seeing their ranks diminish through resignations, retirements, career changes, even dismissals from from the force. But something else seems to be happening now.
