Rep. John Lewis, civil-rights icon, announces he has late-stage pancreatic cancer. The 17-term congressman from Georgia's 5th Congressional District said that a recent medical checkup revealed Stage 4 cancer of the pancreas. Lewis said he immediately is beginning treatment with innovative protocols found encouraging in treating the disease. He'll continue with his political work as long as he can, he said.

The status remains decidedly quo on what only two weeks ago was a rush by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to make fast work of impeaching President Donald J. Trump In the House and then readying him for trial (and conviction) in the Senate.
But Pelosi did not refer the matter to the Senate for trial, even though the House had voted against Trump on two articles of impeachment--abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. And she has given only sketchy information on where, exactly, things stand, and where they go from here.

Two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump received comfortable margins of support in the House yesterday and will be the basis for a trial of the president in the Senate early next year.
House members voted largely along party lines to put Trump on trial for abuse of power (230 to 197) and obstruction of Congress (229 to 198). If convicted, he will be removed from office.
